Flight Options transports astronaut to “100 Heroes” ceremony

CLEVELAND (December 17, 2003) – Buzz Aldrin’s first steps on the moon are immortalized in the annals of aviation and space travel, Flight Options, LLC is proud to help him receive high profile recognition for his pioneering efforts.  Flight Options, LLC, a leading provider of fractional shares in business aircraft and an affiliate of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), is honored to have flown Aldrin to the First Flight Centennial celebration in Kitty Hawk, N.C. earlier this week.

Flight Options is a sponsor of the First Flight Centennial, and representatives of the company were in attendance for Tuesday’s program entitled, “In History’s Footsteps: Celebrating 100 Aviation Pioneers.”  The event was part of the weeklong celebration commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first flight on December 17, 1903.

Flight Options is the only fractional aircraft company to serve as a sponsor of the celebration.

“We are pleased that Flight Options is a part of our recognition of the men and women who have been instrumental in the aviation industry as we know it today,” said Julie Ketner Rigby, director of development, First Flight Centennial Foundation.  “Their support in bringing legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin to the celebration is a conspicuous reminder of the debt owed by the aviation industry to its trailblazing heroes.”

“We like to think that our unique business model is a landmark innovation in modern air transportation,” said John Nahill, chairman and chief executive officer of Flight Options, LLC.  “But it was humbling to escort a legend such as Mr. Aldrin to an assembly of such distinguished leaders.  We were very proud to have played a part in the day’s events.”

Themed “In History’s Footsteps: Celebrating 100 Aviation Pioneers,” the day’s programming featured exhibits and activities honoring pioneers and innovators who have made a significant mark in aviation history. Activities included a ceremony to honor the 100 aviation heroes, as selected by the First Flight Centennial Commission, as well as educational and historic exhibits.

The First Flight Centennial Celebration began on December 12. The six-day event was designed to commemorate the past century of flight; celebrate the achievements of aviators throughout history; and inspire the next generation of aviators to further the Wright Brothers’ dream.
